Actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), achieved a historic victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a significant shift in the state's political landscape. The party is projected to secure over 100 seats in the 234-member Assembly, disrupting the long-standing Dravidian political dominance that has persisted for nearly six decades. One notable win came from R Sabarinathan, the 30-year-old son of Vijay's driver, who triumphed in the Virugampakkam constituency by defeating candidates from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) by over 22,000 votes. Meanwhile, DMK leaders, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, suffered significant losses, with Stalin losing his own seat in Kolathur to TVK's VS Babu. Despite this, Stalin's son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, managed to retain his seat in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni. Vijay himself won decisively in both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (East), with margins of nearly 50,000 and 23,000 votes, respectively. As the counting concludes, the focus now shifts to government formation, with TVK potentially needing support from other parties to secure a majority.
