The Ploopy Bean is a newly launched travel-friendly mouse created by Ploopy, a company known for innovative mouse-like gadgets. Targeted at frequent travelers, the Bean is designed to function well in tight spaces, such as cramped hotel desks. Unlike traditional mice, it operates similarly to a trackpad, utilizing a central red nub for cursor movement. This nub, inspired by the classic ThinkPad design, is equipped with advanced magnetic sensors from Texas Instruments, allowing it to detect movements as small as 3 microns and offering a range of motion up to 11mm in all directions. Surrounding the nub are four customizable buttons, which users can program for macros or keyboard combinations using Ploopy's firmware. A unique feature is that many components are designed for 3D printing, enabling users to create their own replacements. However, the Ploopy Bean is not a wireless device and connects via USB-C. Available for approximately $51, orders are being taken now, but customers should expect a shipping delay of up to 20 weeks.
