Residents' groups in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, are expressing serious concerns about fire safety in high-rise buildings following a major fire in a residential complex in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram area. The Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Associations (NOFAA) has reached out to local MLA Pankaj Singh, highlighting significant gaps in firefighting preparedness. They noted that current fire tenders can only operate effectively up to the 10th floor, while many buildings in the area exceed 15 to 40 storeys. This situation has been described as a 'grim wake-up call' after the fire at Gaur Green Avenue Society. The federation's letter outlines critical issues such as outdated firefighting equipment and the lack of high-reach hydraulic platforms, compounded by congested roads that delay emergency services. NOFAA is advocating for the procurement of advanced firefighting machinery capable of reaching heights over 70 metres and the implementation of mandatory fire safety audits across residential societies. They also propose establishing a specialized rescue unit and utilizing modern technologies like drones to enhance firefighting efficiency. Authorities have yet to respond to these urgent demands.
