In response to the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia, the Indian government has ramped up efforts to ensure the stability of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies. On a single day, approximately 47 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered, closely matching the demand of 47.4 lakh bookings. To curb hoarding and black marketing, officials conducted over 1,900 raids, resulting in penalties for 349 LPG distributorships and the suspension of 74. Despite the geopolitical tensions, the government assures that priority segments for domestic LPG, domestic piped natural gas (PNG), and compressed natural gas (CNG) for transport are receiving uninterrupted supplies. Commercial LPG allocations have been increased to 70% of pre-crisis levels. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that an LPG shipment safely navigated the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the safety of Indian seafarers in the region. The government also emphasizes that there is no disruption in fuel supply at retail outlets, urging citizens to rely on official sources for information and avoid panic buying.
