The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena leadership in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have sent show-cause notices to 118 corporators from the Mahayuti alliance regarding their absence during a crucial vote on April 30. The vote aimed to approve a proposal for transferring a civic-owned plot in Wadala, Mumbai, to a private builder for redevelopment, but was stalled due to opposition from the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), marking the first time a proposal was blocked since the current elected representatives assumed office in February. The proposal, which was brought to the floor as an 'urgent bill', required 90 votes for clearance but only garnered 61 votes in favor, as the entire opposition voted against it. Leaders from both the BJP and Shiv Sena expressed the need for accountability among their corporators, while opposition leaders criticized the urgency of the bill, questioning the motives behind its expedited processing. They emphasized that while they do not oppose the proposal itself, they object to the manner in which it was presented for approval.
