The suspects allegedly operated as part of an organized crime group, deceiving victims through phone calls where they impersonated police officers and cryptocurrency companies. Victims were tricked into sharing sensitive security information, leading to significant financial losses, with one individual reportedly losing over £300,000. The arrests were made following an investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit across Kent, Essex, and London. Ujah and the other suspects appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted bail until the next hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 28. The 32-year-old sprinter previously faced a 22-month ban for doping violations during the Tokyo Olympics, which resulted in Great Britain losing its silver medal in the 4x100m relay. Despite his challenges, Ujah reached the semi-finals in the 100m at the European Athletics Championships in Rome in 2024.
