On Tuesday morning, a significant police presence was reported in uptown Fredericton, New Brunswick, following a call about a person with a firearm. The Fredericton Police Force responded promptly, identifying a 'suspect vehicle' and conducting a two-hour operation that began around 10:45 a.m.. During this time, Fredericton High School, Priestman Street Elementary School, and École Sainte-Anne were placed under hold and secure protocols to ensure student safety. Witnesses, including Darienne Hegarty, recounted the alarming experience of hiding under a desk in a Shoppers Drug Mart with her young daughter as officers secured the area. By approximately 1 p.m., the operation concluded with police recovering a firearm and a deceased individual from the vehicle. The police later stated that the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) was informed of the incident but decided it did not meet the criteria for an investigation.
