Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a novel approach to assigning GST officials by implementing a lottery system for the assignment of 87 officers to various wards. This decision follows Gupta's earlier surprise inspection at the Trade and Taxes building, which revealed several officers absent from duty, leading to the transfer of 162 officials to the state GST office. Gupta emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's zero tolerance policy against corruption, aiming to ensure that appointments and administrative decisions are transparent and impartial. The lottery process was conducted openly in the presence of senior officials and was videographed to maintain an official record for future verification. Gupta indicated that the Delhi government is considering adopting similar transparent systems in other departments to further enhance good governance and public trust. This initiative is expected to improve departmental efficiency and service delivery to taxpayers.
