The Delhi government has announced significant measures following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal to reduce fuel usage amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that government employees will now work from home for two days each week, and foreign travel for ministers and officials will be restricted for the next year. Additionally, petrol allowances for officials will decrease from 250 litres to 200 litres. Mondays will be designated as 'Metro Monday', with government offices operating from 10:30 am to 7 pm and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Citizens are encouraged to observe a 'No Vehicle Day' weekly. The government plans to implement a special travel plan for tourists and will not hold major events for the next three months. The Chief Minister also announced a six-month freeze on new vehicle purchases by government departments and outlined energy-saving measures, including maintaining air-conditioning at 24°C to 26°C and installing smart switches to minimize power wastage. Following PM Modi's advice, the Chief Minister has reduced her convoy size by 60%, now consisting of only four vehicles, two of which are electric.
