The Coimbatore District Museum, which recently relocated to Semmozhi Poonga in March 2026, is seeking additional space from the Coimbatore Corporation to better display its extensive collection of artefacts. Currently situated in a 4,000 sq. ft. area within the ticketing complex of Semmozhi Poonga, the museum has found that it cannot adequately showcase all its items. Originally, the museum was expected to display around 900 artefacts, but it now has about 1,500 items in total, including significant historical pieces such as hero stones and burial urns. The museum officials have indicated that approximately 80 artefacts are ready for exhibition but lack sufficient space for display. The Department of Museums has formally requested the Coimbatore Corporation for additional space, either in front of or adjacent to the existing museum building. Corporation officials have stated that they are currently reviewing this proposal and will make a decision based on the availability of space within the Semmozhi Poonga campus.
