The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has approved a 56 paise per unit increase in electricity prices for Bengaluru, effective from May 2026. This decision, made by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), aims to recover a revenue gap of approximately ₹2.06 crore for the fiscal year 2025. In March 2026, BESCOM had already raised prices by 10 paise per unit, bringing the current rate to 95 paise per unit. The new charges will be implemented through a 'true-up' adjustment, which will spread the additional costs over 12 months, labeled as “FY25 true-up charges” on consumer bills. For an average household consuming 250 units per month, this increase translates to an additional ₹140 monthly, totaling about ₹1,680 over the year. Households using between 100-200 units can expect their monthly bills to rise by ₹56-112. To manage costs, consumers are encouraged to reduce energy consumption by unplugging idle electronics, which can significantly impact annual bills.
