Anbalagan, the only AIADMK MLA in Puducherry, was welcomed at the Assembly before the swearing-in ceremony commenced. His appointment followed the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) recent victory in the Assembly elections, where Chief Minister N Rangasamy of the All India NR Congress (AINRC) took charge.
