The anti-encroachment drive by the Western Railway in Garib Nagar, Bandra (East), Mumbai, escalated into violence on its second day, resulting in injuries to seven police personnel and the detention of ten protesters. The operation, which began following a Bombay High Court order, aims to remove illegal structures, including a religious site that was partially demolished. This action incited anger among local residents, who protested by throwing stones and water at police and railway staff. Authorities had deployed 1,200 police personnel to manage the situation, up from 1,000 the previous day. Approximately 60% of the nearly 500 identified encroachments have been demolished so far. The police have stated that legal action will be taken against those obstructing the operation. The drive has also led to significant traffic disruptions, with Station Road closed, causing confusion for passengers trying to reach Bandra Terminus.
