Mira Nair has announced her upcoming feature film 'Amri', which stars prominent actors including Priyanka Chopra, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Jim Sarbh. The film is inspired by the life and art of Amrita Sher-Gil, a groundbreaking figure in Indian modern art. Set in the early 20th century across Hungary, France, and India, 'Amri' explores Sher-Gil's artistic journey and her struggle for self-identity amidst cultural duality. Nair emphasized that Sher-Gil's unique perspective on Indian life, shaped by her European training, has profoundly influenced her own cinematic vision. The film features an ensemble cast, with Anjali Sivaraman portraying Sher-Gil and Chopra taking on the role of Madame Azurie, while also serving as an Executive Producer. Producers Samudrika Arora and Michael Nozik highlighted the film's exploration of the tension between different cultural identities and the universal relevance of self-expression. Currently in production, 'Amri' promises to be a poignant portrayal of an artist's life and her impact on the art world.
