Madhya Pradesh, India, is taking proactive measures to secure its farmers amid global agricultural uncertainties stemming from the US-Iran conflict. The Central Government has approved a significant increase in wheat procurement from 7.8 million metric tonnes to 10 million metric tonnes to support local farmers facing challenges due to stalled exports and rising costs. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav raised concerns about the potential impact on farmers if global markets falter while production surges. In light of these concerns, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi confirmed the revised procurement target, emphasizing the government's commitment to buying every grain from farmers despite external pressures. Procurement operations commenced on April 9 in several divisions, with a focus on small farmers initially, before expanding to medium and large farmers. This year's bumper wheat harvest positions Madhya Pradesh as a leading wheat-producing state, and the increased procurement is expected to provide crucial financial relief to farmers.
