According to the National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) 'Crime in India 2024' report, Bengaluru has the highest number of dowry-related cases among Indian metropolitan cities, recording 878 incidents out of 1,008 across all metro areas. This represents a staggering 87% of the total cases. In addition to dowry cases, Bengaluru also reported 25 dowry-related deaths, although this number is lower than Delhi's 109 deaths, which has maintained the highest dowry death rate for five consecutive years. The report highlights that Bengaluru leads in crimes against women, registering 1,051 incidents under special and local laws, including 897 cases of criminal force used to outrage a woman's modesty. At the state level, Karnataka recorded 2,947 cases of cruelty against wives, with Uttar Pradesh having the highest at 21,266 cases.
