Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the significant financial strain on state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs), which are projected to incur under-recoveries of ₹2 lakh crore this quarter due to stagnant fuel prices. Puri noted that OMCs are currently losing approximately ₹1,000 crore daily, raising concerns about the sustainability of their operations. He clarified that there are no immediate plans to increase fuel prices, which have remained unchanged since 2022. Despite the ongoing energy crisis stemming from conflicts in West Asia, Puri assured that India has sufficient fuel reserves, including 60 days of crude oil and 45 days of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). To combat cooking fuel shortages, LPG production has been ramped up from 35,000 tonnes to 54,000 tonnes daily. Puri also mentioned that the government is finalizing financial support for oil exploration under the Samundar Manthan programme, aimed at attracting more investment in the sector.
