On Thursday, approximately 60 veterans and their spouses from Cape May County, New Jersey, benefited from the newly launched Wills for Warriors program, which offered free legal services including wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. The initiative took place at the Ocean City American Legion Morvay-Miley-Cruice Post 524 and was spearheaded by Cape May County Surrogate Judge E. Marie Hayes in collaboration with the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Cape May County Bar Association, and the Citizen/Veterans Advisory Committee. Over 20 attorneys volunteered their time to provide these essential legal documents at no cost. The program was inspired by a similar initiative for first responders that Hayes observed at a convention. With an estimated 5,400 veterans residing in Cape May County, this program aims to address the specific legal needs of this community. Hayes expressed gratitude for the support received from the legal community and local officials, emphasizing the county's commitment to honoring its veterans. Following the event's success, the Surrogate’s Office is exploring additional opportunities to support veterans and first responders in the future.
