Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded action against Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, criticising the government over the NEET paper leak. In a post on social media, the Congress leader alleged that lakhs of students had been affected by the issue and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter. Raising concerns over the future of lakhs of students, the Congress leader alleged that the examination paper had been circulated before the test and claimed the government ignored warnings and recommendations related to the examination process. “For two years, 22 lakh NEET students worked tirelessly day and night, and their hard work has been ruined. The entire country knows that the NEET paper was being circulated on WhatsApp two days before the exam,” Gandhi said. Modi ji, SACK Dharmendra Pradhan ji NOW. pic.twitter.com/6FRMMa8AI8 — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) May 16, 2026 He further alleged that recommendations made by a committee on examination reforms were ignored by the Education Ministry. “Dharmendra Pradhan ji, who is India’s Education Minister, says he has nothing to do with it. The committee had given recommendations, but he threw them into the dustbin, saying the committee members belonged to the Opposition and that their suggestions were meaningless,” he said. Targeting the BJP and RSS, Gandhi also alleged that political influence had weakened the country’s higher education system and appointments in universities were being driven by ideology rather than merit. “The truth is that you have damaged the very core of India’s education system. There is a nexus between the RSS, the BJP, and the people they have placed in universities-vice chancellors and professors. It is a nexus built to make money, and it has destroyed India’s education system,” Gandhi alleged. Calling for strict action in the matter, Gandhi demanded accountability from the Centre and sought the resignation or removal of the Education Minister. “This is the reason why papers have leaked 80 times in this country and the future of crores of young people has been destroyed. The Prime Minister should immediately order that Dharmendra Pradhan resign or be sacked, and all those found guilty should be arrested and sent to jail,” he added.
