The Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation has introduced a new online system allowing residents to download their e-Khata using the SAS Property Tax ID. This initiative, directed by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, aims to provide immediate access to approximately 1.3 million e-Khatas, enhancing convenience for property owners. Previously, obtaining a Khata required navigating bureaucratic hurdles, but now it can be done online, ensuring 24/7 access to property records. The process involves logging into the BBMP portal, entering the SAS ID, and downloading the e-Khata. This move is expected to reduce dependency on intermediaries and streamline property transactions. However, while legal ownership is not impacted by the absence of a Khata, it complicates various aspects such as property usability, tax payments, and access to loans. Advocates emphasize the importance of obtaining a Khata for smooth transactions and compliance with municipal regulations.
