Les Rallizes Dénudés, a Japanese noise-rock band founded in 1967, emerged during a tumultuous period of student protests in Japan. The band, led by the enigmatic Takashi Mizutani, became renowned for their intense live performances characterized by extreme distortion. Despite their underground status and reluctance to produce studio albums, they developed a dedicated international fanbase, with their music primarily circulated as bootlegs. Following Mizutani's death in December 2019, fellow band member Makoto Kubota took on the task of restoring and releasing their music, including an extraordinary lost album. Kubota reflects on their early days, recalling how Mizutani introduced him to American music and the band's radical approach to sound. Their legacy continues to grow as Kubota works to honor Mizutani's vision, with plans to release previously unreleased tracks from the band's extensive archives, capturing their unique blend of psych-rock and noise.
