Major banks like the State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank operate from 10 am to 4 pm, while others like ICICI and HDFC have hours from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. There is an ongoing demand from bank unions for a five-day workweek, which would mean banks would close on all Saturdays and Sundays. This proposal aims to alleviate work pressure and improve efficiency for bank employees. To accommodate this change without disrupting customer service, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has proposed extending daily working hours by 40 minutes from Monday to Friday. The RBI maintains a list of holidays that varies by state, reflecting local observances.
