Filmmaker Sundar C has shared insights into his decision to exit the much-anticipated film Thalaivar 173, which features iconic actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Initially announced in November 2025 with a planned release for Pongal 2027, Sundar C stepped away just days after the announcement, citing 'unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.' In a recent interview with Behindwoods, he revealed that the immense pressure of directing such a high-profile project became too overwhelming. He stated, 'For the past 16 years, I’ve made films the way I wanted... But I don’t have the capacity to make people understand this during production.' Sundar C emphasized that the expectations and collaborative decisions involved in a project of this scale would compromise his creative vision. He personally informed Rajinikanth about his exit, ensuring that it was not due to any personal differences. Following his departure, director Cibi Chakaravarthi has taken over the helm of Thalaivar 173. Sundar C's earlier statement reflected his respect for both actors and expressed regret over his decision, highlighting the invaluable lessons learned during their collaboration.
