A devastating collision between a pickup van and a truck on the Ferozepur–Fazilka road early on Saturday morning led to the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to twelve others. The victims, all from Railway Colony in Jalalabad, were traveling to Beas to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative when the incident occurred around 5:30 AM near Janga Wala village, approximately 18 kilometers from Ferozepur. The impact of the crash was severe, with the front of the pickup van, which was carrying 25 passengers, completely mangled. Local residents quickly responded to assist the victims before emergency services arrived. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur, where some succumbed to their injuries. Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma confirmed the fatalities and reported that nine seriously injured individuals were transferred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. The truck driver remains at large, and a criminal case has been filed as investigations into the cause of the accident continue. The tragedy has sparked political criticism regarding road safety measures, with calls for immediate improvements to the highway.
