Three doctors have been arrested in Mandya district, Karnataka, for allegedly conducting illegal pregnancy scans on minors without informing the police or child welfare authorities. The arrested doctors include Dr. Divya Chetana from Chetana Maternity Centre, Dr. Harshit from Navi Diagnostic Centre, and Dr. Harish from Kushal Diagnostic Centre, all located in KR Pet taluk. Another suspect, Dr. Priyanka, a government gynaecologist, is currently absconding. The case emerged after complaints prompted Karnataka Upalokayukta Justice B Veerappa to take action. Investigations revealed that the doctors violated the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, with allegations of sex determination currently under verification. The Lokayukta police traced the diagnostic centres involved, which have been operating unlawfully since 2023. A total of 12 FIRs have been filed across Mandya's police stations, implicating 17 individuals, including a government doctor and various health workers. Authorities are now seeking a detailed report from the health department regarding cases involving minors since 2023, as mandatory legal protocols were not followed, raising serious concerns about the welfare of the affected minors.
