The Philippine National Police (PNP) has indicated its openness to a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) probe concerning a police officer's possible role in providing misleading information about Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa's whereabouts. PNP operations director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. confirmed this stance during a DZMM interview, emphasizing the importance of identifying any police involvement in the incident. The investigation follows the NBI's recent arrest of a man who allegedly attempted to deceive NBI director Melvin Matibag by offering false information regarding Dela Rosa's location for financial gain. The suspect claimed he was manipulated by a police officer in this scheme. Dela Rosa is currently wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) due to his alleged participation in the controversial anti-drug campaign under former President Rodrigo Duterte, which has been linked to thousands of deaths, as reported by human rights organizations. The Department of Justice has mandated both the PNP and NBI to carry out the ICC's arrest warrant for Dela Rosa, issued on May 21.
