The Jammu Tawi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, which will commence commercial operations on May 2, 2026, is an extension of the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express, flagged off by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This train, operated by the Northern Railway (NR) zone, will feature 20 coaches, an increase from the previous capacity to accommodate rising passenger demand, especially during peak pilgrimage and tourist seasons. The train is uniquely designed to withstand extreme cold, capable of operating in temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. It includes advanced heating systems in plumbing and bio-toilets to prevent freezing, ensuring functionality during harsh weather. Additionally, the driver's cabin has a heated windshield to maintain visibility in foggy conditions. Currently, there are 162 Vande Bharat train services across India, but this service stands out due to its specialized design for the Kashmir Valley.
