Germany is set to finalize a significant submarine cooperation agreement with India, valued at approximately $8 billion. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that the deal includes the construction of six advanced conventional submarines, marking a pivotal change in Germany’s defense export policy. This initiative is part of India's broader strategy to enhance its maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. The project, known as Project-75 India (P-75I), will see Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) leading the construction, focusing on submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology, which allows them to remain submerged for extended periods.
