The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Zafar Riaz, a resident of Kolkata, for allegedly spying for Pakistan. Riaz was reportedly involved in passing confidential security information to Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) as part of a larger anti-India terror conspiracy. He was taken into custody under various laws, including the Official Secrets Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Riaz has a history of espionage, having previously been convicted under similar charges, and was married to a Pakistani national, with his children also holding Pakistani citizenship. Since 2005, he frequently traveled between India and Pakistan, during which he was allegedly recruited by PIOs with promises of financial rewards and Pakistani citizenship. The NIA revealed that Riaz assisted in espionage operations by providing One-Time Passwords (OTPs) linked to Indian mobile numbers, enabling covert communications for other operatives, including Motiram Jat, who is also implicated in the case. The NIA continues to investigate the broader conspiracy and connections to other individuals involved in this espionage racket.
