In response to one of its most significant electoral defeats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) in Kerala has announced plans to hold meetings across all levels of the party to allow members to voice their opinions and criticisms openly. During a press conference at the AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, State secretary M.V. Govindan stated that these discussions aim to prepare a comprehensive election review and identify corrective measures to regain public confidence. The CPI(M) faced crushing defeats even in its traditional strongholds, indicating potential discontent among its voter base. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured only 37.6% of the vote share in the recent Assembly elections, a decline from 35.1% in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and 33.35% in the 2025 elections. Govindan emphasized the importance of honest assessments of the party's organizational and political challenges. Meetings will take place in May and June, involving various levels of party members to ensure thorough analysis and feedback. He also criticized the new United Democratic Front (UDF) government for issuing transfers in several departments before officially taking office, which he claims deviates from established norms.
