Meta has introduced a new AI chatbot for its social media platform Threads, similar to Grok on X. However, users are expressing significant frustration as they cannot block this chatbot or opt out of its interactions. Currently, the beta testing is restricted to users in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore, while the public-facing @meta.ai account is accessible to all Threads users. Many have taken to the platform to voice their anger, resulting in over one million posts about the inability to block the account. Some users have reported the account for spam, but they found that the blocking option did not work. According to Meta, users can choose to see fewer posts from the bot by muting or selecting a 'not interested' option, but this has not quelled the outrage. The situation echoes previous incidents where Meta faced backlash for similar unblocking issues with AI features, including a failed project involving AI-generated Instagram profiles.
