In a recent operation dubbed 'Operation Vajrapat', Ghazipur police have identified 50 criminal gangs comprising 401 members, highlighting a troubling trend in youth crime. This surge follows the death of notorious gangster Mukhtar Ansari in March 2024, which has created a power vacuum exploited by young criminals. Gangs such as the Katra Gang, Mahakal Gang, 315 Gang, and Farsa Gang are reportedly engaging in hooliganism and public disturbances. Ghazipur Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja noted that many of these groups are composed of young individuals who use social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram to promote their criminal image through provocative posts and videos. The police have filed 39 cases against gang members and arrested 11 suspects as part of their crackdown. To combat this rise in gang activity, police are gathering intelligence from the community and conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns aimed at educating families about the risks of gang involvement and its potential impact on their children's futures.
