In Sherwood, Oregon, speed cameras installed on Southwest Oregon Street have detected over 1,000 drivers exceeding the speed limit within just two weeks. The cameras, operational since May 25, recorded 1,045 violations of drivers going at least 11 mph over the 25 mph limit. Local residents have long expressed concerns about speeding in their neighborhood, which is primarily residential but also sees traffic from construction vehicles. The Sherwood Police Department initiated this effort to enhance safety through its Photo Enforcement Program, which will issue warnings initially, followed by citations starting June 23. Fines for speeding in non-school zones range from $165 to $440, while school zone violations incur fines between $225 and $875. Notably, $66 from each fine will support the enforcement program. While some residents have yet to see a reduction in speeding, they hope the cameras will remain in place permanently to ensure ongoing compliance.
