The Madras High Court has taken action against Joseph Vijay, the chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), after a petition raised concerns about inconsistencies in his asset declarations for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The court observed that there was a significant discrepancy of over ₹100 crore between his asset disclosures for the Perambur and Trichy (East) constituencies. Vijay declared assets worth ₹115.13 crore in Perambur but reported ₹220.15 crore in Trichy (East), raising serious questions about the accuracy of these declarations. The petitioner, V Vignesh from Chennai, argued that these discrepancies indicate potential suppression of assets and called for an investigation by the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation). The court has directed that notices be sent to Vijay, the Election Commission of India, and other relevant authorities, with a hearing scheduled for next week. The petitioner has requested that the findings be made public before the polling date on April 23, enabling voters to make informed choices.
