In Thane, Maharashtra, seven individuals have been booked for allegedly duping Dipali Chavan, a 32-year-old woman, of over ₹31,67,860 ($37,800 USD) under the pretense of arranging a kidney donor for her husband. Chavan had previously donated one of her kidneys to save her husband, who suffered from kidney failure, but complications from that surgery led to further health issues. Family doctor Dr. Gaurav Dharma Nair is accused of introducing Chavan to a group of facilitators, including Mosmi Biswas, Jaydev Biswas, Abhishek Manna, Sumanta Pandey, Iqbal Ahmed Siddiqui, and Mohammed Abbas. Payments were made in installments from July 2025 to March 2026, but the accused failed to deliver on their promises. After realizing the fraud, Chavan approached the police, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspects for cheating and organized crime. Authorities are investigating the potential for inter-state connections in this case.
