In a case of alleged fraud, Kamlabai Rathod, the principal of a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school in Dahisar, Mumbai, has been booked along with three relatives for cheating a home guard, Vaibhav Goregaonkar, out of ₹2.5 lakh (approximately $3,000 USD). The incident dates back to 2019 when Goregaonkar, who was working at the school, was approached by Rathod with a promise to secure him a government job. Rathod claimed to have influential contacts, including the personal assistant of then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Initially, the cost for the job placement was set at ₹8 lakh, which was later negotiated to ₹6 lakh. Goregaonkar was instructed to pay ₹3 lakh upfront and another ₹3 lakh once the job was confirmed within 45 days. In total, he ended up paying ₹3.22 lakh. However, when the promised job did not materialize, he sought a refund. Rathod and her relatives initially issued a cheque but later returned only ₹70,000, leading Goregaonkar to file a complaint with the police. The Dahisar police have initiated legal action against Rathod and her relatives for their involvement in this scam.
