A new secondary school in Dumfries, Scotland, has officially opened its doors to students, marking a significant milestone in the town's educational landscape. The £56 million facility is part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade all four secondary schools in Dumfries, which began over a decade ago. This new building will replace the old school, which will soon be demolished. Tracey Little, chair of the education committee and a former pupil, described the opening as a 'momentous day' for the local community. The first phase of the project commenced in 2016, which included upgrades to St Joseph's College and the construction of the North West Community Campus. However, the latter faced safety issues that led to its closure shortly after opening. Despite financial pressures that required revisions to the second phase, the new Dumfries High School is now operational, featuring modern facilities including fibre broadband in classrooms. The remaining work, including the demolition of the original school and landscaping, is expected to be completed by spring next year.
