As Tamil Nadu navigates the complexities of government formation, Chief Minister MK Stalin (leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party) has allowed his allies, including the VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) and Left parties, to independently evaluate a potential alliance with Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Despite TVK's impressive performance in the recent elections, winning 108 out of 234 seats, it fell short of the 118-seat majority needed to govern. The Congress party has pledged support to Vijay, contributing five additional MLAs to his coalition. However, during a meeting with Governor Arlekar, Vijay faced scrutiny over his ability to govern without a majority and was asked to clarify his coalition's support. The governor has insisted that Vijay must demonstrate his majority before being sworn in as chief minister, a demand that VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has labeled as unacceptable, asserting that Vijay should be allowed to take the oath and prove his numbers in the assembly.
