In Bengaluru, R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, has faced a prolonged three-year delay in securing an official residence. Despite submitting six requests for one of his preferred bungalows—No 1 Kumarakrupa East, Race View Cottage No 1, or No 2—he has yet to receive an allotment as all are currently occupied by other ministers. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has confirmed that the demand for official residences exceeds the available supply, which includes 27 bungalows designated for various political figures. Notably, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar occupies Kumarakrupa East No 1, while Race View Cottages are occupied by other ministers. This shortage has compelled the government to rent private properties for some ministers, with costs ranging from ₹2.2 lakh to ₹3.38 lakh per month. Ashoka, who previously declined an offer for a bungalow in Seven Ministers’ Quarters, has expressed frustration over the situation, recalling that he vacated his own quarters to accommodate Siddaramaiah when he was in a similar position.
