Waris Pathan, a prominent leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has condemned the recent attacks on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, asserting that such violence against elected officials is intolerable. Pathan highlighted the importance of maintaining law and order in a democracy, emphasizing that political differences should not lead to assaults on representatives. The incidents have escalated political tensions in West Bengal, with Abhishek Banerjee alleging he was attacked with bricks and stones during a visit to families affected by post-poll violence, resulting in an eye injury. Kalyan Banerjee also reported being assaulted while attempting to file a complaint regarding the violence. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee condemned these acts, describing them as targeted attacks on her party and criticizing the authorities for failing to protect opposition leaders. In response to the attacks, police have arrested five individuals connected to the incident involving Abhishek Banerjee, and investigations are ongoing.
