India and Cyprus have taken significant steps to deepen their bilateral relations, as announced by President Nikos Christodoulides during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A joint task force was established to enhance cooperation in critical sectors such as infrastructure, shipping, and economic collaboration. Christodoulides remarked on the rapid advancement of their partnership, which has evolved from a strategic vision into a tangible alliance, yielding results in areas like security, defence, and technology. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to international law and multilateralism, with Cyprus expressing gratitude for India's support regarding the reunification of Cyprus and its backing for India's position in the United Nations Security Council. PM Modi elevated the bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, aiming to infuse new energy into their cooperation, which has seen Cypriot investments nearly double over the past decade. The visit also included the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), marking a crucial step towards further strengthening ties as both nations prepare to celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2027.
