The Bihar government has announced a fare increase for state-run buses, set to take effect on June 1, with rates rising by 10%-15% for approximately 1,500 buses. Following this, the Bihar Motor Transport Federation plans to implement a similar fare hike for nearly 40,000 private buses, starting June 10. The fare adjustments will vary based on distance, with ordinary bus fares increasing from ₹1.50 to ₹1.73 per kilometer. AC buses will charge between ₹2.30 and ₹2.50 per kilometer, while premium services will be priced at ₹2.88 per kilometer. Additionally, auto, e-rickshaw, and cab unions are considering fare increases of 20%-25% depending on the route. The transport department has instructed district officers to ensure updated fare charts are displayed and to maintain complaint registers. A special drive against overloading will also be initiated. Currently, the fare revisions apply only to buses, and no changes have been approved for tempos and autos yet.
