The incident occurred on a diamond crossing, a railway track layout that allows trains to cross without switching lines. Central Railway officials, including Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Swapnil Nila, stated that plans are in place to upgrade the diamond crossing as part of the yard remodelling at Pune station. Additionally, passengers will be shifted to another rake while the crossing is replaced on a priority basis, along with similar upgrades to non-standard diamond crossings across Indian Railways.
