The Indian government has provided 'Y' category armed security cover to Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Lok Sabha MP for Barasat, West Bengal. This measure, effective from May 19, 2023, follows a security assessment conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which concluded that Dastidar requires enhanced protection due to potential threats. The security will be managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for safeguarding critical infrastructure and high-risk individuals. Under the 'Y' category, Dastidar will receive round-the-clock security from armed personnel, reflecting the seriousness of the threat perception.
