Mala Roy, a lawmaker from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) representing Kolkata Dakshin, was granted bail after surrendering to a Kolkata court regarding allegations of assault against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on May 4, the day the results of the Bengal assembly elections were announced. Roy, her son Anirban, and 22 others were charged under various sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal intimidation and using criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty. According to police reports, the group allegedly attacked BJP workers with firearms and sharp weapons shortly after the election results were declared. The complaint, filed by a BJP worker, also mentioned that one of the accused allegedly outraged the modesty of a female BJP worker during the incident, which took place on Sadhu Taracharan Road in south Kolkata. Roy's counsel, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, argued that the allegations are false and politically motivated, asserting that the case was initiated based on a complaint lodged by a BJP worker. Following their surrender, Roy and the others were granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore court.
