On Wednesday night, a tragic accident on the Indore–Ahmedabad National Highway in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, led to the deaths of 12 people, including two children, and injured 23 others. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM near a petrol pump in Chikaliya Phata when a pickup truck, carrying 35 laborers returning from an onion field, collided with an SUV. According to Dhar Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi, the pickup truck was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times before hitting a Scorpio SUV. Twelve individuals died at the scene, while ten critically injured victims were transported to MY Hospital in Indore, and the remaining were treated at the district hospital in Dhar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 (approximately $600 USD) for the injured. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also instructed that all medical treatment for the injured would be provided free of charge and announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh (approximately $4,800 USD) for each deceased's family and ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD) for those critically injured.
