Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is set to commence commercial operations on June 15, 2026. Despite Uttar Pradesh's low 1% tax on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), initial flight prices from Jewar are surprisingly higher than those from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). For example, flights from Jewar to Lucknow cost around ₹5,401, while similar flights from IGI are priced at approximately ₹3,394, creating a discrepancy of over ₹2,000 per passenger. This trend is consistent across other routes, including flights to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, which also show higher fares from Jewar. The primary reason for these inflated prices is the steep User Development Fee (UDF) of ₹653 per passenger at Jewar, compared to just ₹129 at IGI, representing a 406% increase. Additionally, aircraft parking fees and landing charges at Jewar are significantly higher. Major airlines like Indigo and Air India have expressed concerns about the financial implications of operating from Jewar, predicting an additional annual cost of nearly ₹103 crore. Furthermore, the lack of robust transport connectivity to Jewar forces passengers to rely on expensive private transport, further increasing travel costs. While airport officials argue that these charges are standard for new airports, there are hopes that improved operational efficiencies and competition will eventually lead to lower airfares.
