On Monday, the Additional District and Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, directed the Madhya Pradesh Police to submit a report regarding the alleged underage marriage of a woman who gained attention during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. The marriage, which took place at the Poovar Arumannur Nayinar Devi Temple, has drawn scrutiny as a petition was filed by P Nagaraj from Neyyattinkara, seeking action under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against several political figures, including CPI state secretary M V Govindan and Education Minister V Sivankutty. The court noted that a related case is already under investigation at the Maheshwar police station in Madhya Pradesh and has scheduled a follow-up for May 20. The couple involved, Mohammad Farman Khan and the woman, assert that she is over 18 and have requested police protection due to fears of being forcibly taken back to Madhya Pradesh. A Madhya Pradesh Police team recently visited Kochi for questioning but left without completing the process.
