In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for responsible fuel consumption due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, several chief ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) states in India have announced significant reductions in their official convoy sizes. Modi's initiative aims to encourage citizens to conserve fuel and spend wisely, especially in light of potential disruptions to energy supplies. Notable measures include a 50% reduction in the number of vehicles used by ministers and officials, as implemented by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and others. Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh's Mohan Yadav have also directed officials to minimize travel and vehicle use. Additionally, Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has reduced his convoy size during district tours. The government clarified that these austerity measures focus on reducing fuel consumption rather than cutting overall government spending.
