The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party expressed strong disapproval of the Indian National Congress's decision to leave their alliance in support of the Tamilaga Vazhvu Katchi (TVK). DMK treasurer T R Baalu accused Congress of 'betraying' the voters and abandoning a long-standing partnership during a politically challenging time. He emphasized DMK's historical support for Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during crises. DMK organizational secretary R S Bharathi described Congress's departure as 'good riddance' and criticized their actions as ungrateful. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai went further, alleging that Congress had 'backstabbed' DMK and called for the resignation of Congress's Rajya Sabha seat, which was won with DMK's support. In response, Congress MPs S Jothimani and Sasikanth Senthil urged both parties to refrain from harsh remarks and to part ways with mutual respect.
